Once again, the streets of Shibuya echo with spirited shouts as 14 mikoshi (portable shrines)
parade through the city!
The Shibuya Kinno Hachiman Shrine Festival, held every September, is Shibuya’s grandest celebration.
This centuries-old tradition, observed in the Aoyama and Shibuya districts, prays for bountiful
harvests, the prosperity of the town, and the health and safety of its devotees.
The highlight of the festival is the awe-inspiring Joint Mikoshi Procession,
where 14 mikoshi from Shibuya’s various neighborhoods gather
in front of Shibuya 109 and are hoisted in unison—a breathtaking sight that brings the festival to its peak excitement!
